Good morning! Today I am sharing my family’s favorite bread recipe: french baguette.
It is so easy that is ridiculous, but it is so tasty that it is out of this world! and guess what!!! I do it on my bread machine! (If you are my follower you know how much I love my bread machine!) Another plus for this recipe is that… DRUM ROLL PLEASE….no oil or butter is needed! Well, only a little butter to brush on top.
Ingredients for 2 gigantic baguettes:
2 cups hot water
5 cups all purpose flour
1 3/4 teaspoons of salt
3 teaspoons of bread machine yeast
2 tablespoons of sugar
melted butter for the top, about a tablespoon each.
In your bread machine, add the ingredients in the order following your bread machine manufacturer’s instructions. Mine are: water, sugar, flour, salt, indentation in the middle of the flour and then add yeast.
Press dough cycle, mine is number 8. I have a Sunbeam bread machine and I love it!
After the dough has been kneaded and risen, it will look like this:
Take the dough out of the machine, deflate, and knead a little bit on a floured counter. Cut the dough in half and roll each one into a rectangle, about 2 cm thick or so.
Using the longer side of the rectangle, roll out as if you were making cinnamon rolls. Tuck the ends under.
Put them on a greased baking sheet.
Using scissors cut deep cuts on top pf the loaf.
Cover and let rise for an hour. They will look like this:
Brush the tops with a little melted butter and bake in a preheated 375 degree oven for 25 minutes. They are so yummy they will disappear fast!
You could also sprinkle sesame seeds or include herbs in the dough. Also, you can cut them in halves, add sauce, toppings and cheese and…hello pizza!
